Kohl’s App

Customers shopping on the Kohl's app cycle between the PMP and various PDPs an average of 13x per visit. With this in mind, we understood that any friction between these two pages could result in abandonment.

Customers reported a disruptive back-navigation experience in the app. When moving from the Product Listing Page (PMP) to the Product Detail Page (PDP) and back, shoppers often lost their place or scroll position in the list. This friction made customers less likely to open PDPs and negatively impacted revenue per visitor.

Problem to Solve

We hypothesized that presenting the PDP in a sheet would preserve the customer’s original scroll position on the PMP by eliminating the need for a page reload, while the overlay pattern would signal that they remained within their browsing context.

Hypothesis

In addition to moving the PDP into a sheet, we introduced several enhancements to improve product evaluation:

  • Prioritized imagery by placing product photos at the top for immediate visual access.

  • Created a “triangulation zone” where imagery, color, and size selectors remain visible within the same view to support faster decision-making.

  • Improved sharing by relocating the share feature from deep in the page to the top for easier access.

Opportunities

Presenting the PDP in a sheet rather than a new page allows customers to keep their place in search or browse results, making it easier to continue shopping.
